So, on the last day of Lovecraft Month, I’m going to post a few videos to enjoy.  The first one is The Haunter in the Dark, which features a protagonist who was modeled after Robert Bloch, the author of Psycho.

Finally, here is a documentary on the life of H.P. Lovecraft.  Not a complete one, but interesting to say the least.  I plan on writing down my thoughts on the man later.

I hope you all enjoyed Lovecraft month.  Now please, give the kids some candy and then egg their parents.  It’s the one day of the year where it makes sense.  But don’t summon any ancient gods, demons, or cosmic being not entirely composed of terrestrial matter.  It’s about fun, not the end of the world.

Horror writer Stephan King has had several stories with Lovecraftian elements in them.  In his short story Crouch End, we see some of those elements unfold.  Here’s a music video of sorts with Metallica’s instrumental “The Call of Ktulu” with scenes from the story:

Return of Lovecraft Friday: Lovecraft Month

Since the United States likes to celebrate a long-dead pagan holiday with horrors and other weird things, I think I should share my own.  I stopped doing Lovecraft Fridays, largely because I was running low on material, but I’d like to bring them back this October.  H.P. Lovecraft invented a whole new genre of horror, one that has been imitated by the best horror writers of the last century.  His cosmic horror is probably the best kind as it doesn’t exactly throw around buckets of blood and sometimes, it can truly be terrifying (the first time I read The Nameless City, I got claustrophobia just thinking about the small, dark spaces).

So, I’m starting off this month with a really interesting short film called Black Goat:

Today I’m going to post a different kind of video.  This is a clip of a video game called Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth.  This video features the protagonist Jack Walters dealing with a Shoggoth.  The unique style of the game feature a sanity meter where seeing horrible things for too long would cause audio and video distortions.  Playing the game with no lights on and headphones could really freak you out at times.  Anyway, this video features the first part of the Shoggoth battle where you have to outmaneuver it in order to get it away from you.

Did I mention J. Edgar Hoover shows up in this game? Not in drag though….
