And another thing I don’t like about conservatives is that they constantly whine about how the market needs regulation and yet they are shock and surprised when some butthole actually steps up and takes it over. I mean, seriously, what did you expect there? Did you think that politicians would leave well enough alone?
Were you really surprised when Bush said he had to save the free market by basically destroying it in the biggest wanton act of corporatism in a long time? Were you shocked when Obama stepped in and bailed out the useless American automobile industries?
When they are confronted with all this, they claim that there needs to be some regulation in order to ensure fairness in the system. If I ever wanted a conservative to sound like a liberal, that’s how I’d do it. After all, the free market needs a referee because it’s all just one big game to them. That’s right, the trillions of transactions that take place each and every day is nothing more than one giant game. That food you eat, the fuel you get, the lights in your house, and the cell phones you need are nothing more than a giant game that requires a referee.
So let me follow this line of logic: a conservative demands a referee in a free market system because he doesn’t believe in the honesty of the businessman. Or rather, he believes in the politician more than the businessman. Don’t you dullards know that the most egregious acts of greed and fraud that have been perpetrated on the poor and helpless have usually been businessmen working in conjunction with politicians?
The businessman is dangerous to the free market precisely because of the influence he or she can impose upon the rest of us due to government force. This is because a businessman can use his or her means of production to bribe the rulers into providing them benefits. This bribe need not originate from the businessperson either as many politicians often times will demand tribute in order to advance the businessperson’s interest. In the old days, it was accepted as business as usual with the monarchs and kings who somehow were able to rule over us. A bribe was considered to be a standard practice in many civilizations.
These days, Western society by and large frowns upon such behavior. Yet they allow it to happen, provided is called something like “soft-money donations” among other things. In reality, the government can be bought just as much as anyone else can be. After all, many people, despite their sexual preference, would sleep with someone they wouldn’t prefer to for a great deal of money. How much easier would it be to buy someone off for less money?
In truth, the best thing that can happen to the free market system is for the government to back down and back off completely and as much as possible. That way, everyone gets a fair shake to the best of his or her ability.
Yeah, there will be problems, but no government regulation will fix it. Conservatives should know better these days, especially in light of the rampant corruption that was around before Obama took office, that continues to exist, and will continue to exist as long as the people permit government to impose fairness.
But when it comes to the state, fairness is only relative to the whims of the men and women who dictate it. And how much can you really know a person who you chose to rule over you?
