On the Coming Collapse

Every day I’m seeing more and more signs that our nation’s economy and political system is on the verge of collapse.  While our fall may not put us at the same level as a third world country, it will be devastating and it will take us all done a few notches.  Any recovery will seem infeasible when it occurs and I doubt our nation’s economy will completely recover in the same manner.

Some may say we all deserve it for whatever reason.  I seriously doubt we deserve this collapse anymore than we deserved the preceding wealth.  To me, it’s just one of those things that happened.  In reality, I am thankful to God for having been born and raised in the United States at a time when we were wealthy and prosperous.  It is unfortunate that this is going to end, but I will survive like everyone else.

As for the political climate, it is becoming abundantly clear that neither Democrats or Republicans are willing to do what it takes to properly fix things and ensure that businesses thrive.  The passage of the unconstitutional Health Care “Reform” law is further proof of this.  I know that Democrats passed it along partisan lines, where there was a bipartisan effort against it, it is clear that the Republicans were unwilling to put up too much of a fight.  I have yet to hear of one Republican leader in the Congress calling this bill unconstitutional.  Of course, to do so would only invite criticism upon them for all the unconstitutional bills they’ve passed.

While I am worried about the economy, I am more concerned with the political climate.  It’s not that we are so divided, it’s that nobody views the constitution for what it is: the law of the land.  To many politicians, the constitution is nothing more than a piece of paper that illustrates the formalities we go through.  It is only a matter of time before one party (most likely the Democrats) will just declare free elections to be illegitimate.  Of course, they won’t say that specifically, they’ll just say that the process is corrupt and has been put on hold until further notice.

In all this, I have been very disappointed and upset with the press.  They were suppose to simply report the news, not editorialize it, and yet they are always spinning every story with a Statist slant.  I was listening in my car about how a certain locality here was losing revenue from parking tickets and they were looking for ways to fix the budget shortfalls.  Nobody reporting that story seemed to understand that fines were not suppose to be revenue like taxes were.  Call me naive, but I thought fines and tickets were punishments, not taxes.  It’s a sick world when nobody points out that obvious flaw in logic.

So the breakdown of our society is coming.  Some will blame a political party or group.  Some will blame it on the moral breakdown of our laws.  I blame it on the shifting times and the overall laziness of the individual to stand up and do something about it.  When I started to become an adult, my parents pointed so many things that were unfair, but just the way things are.  Maybe it’s time we stood up and made things the way they ought to be.

But it will have to be after the collapse, because there’s no point in attempting any kind social change when it’s going to disappear shortly after it is accomplished.
