By by count, it is patently dishonest to accuse anyone of not “paying their fair share” because the very notion is a farce. First of all, you do not pay anything to the government because that term denotes choice and when it comes to taxation, you have no choice. Secondly, what constitutes “fair share” by their count. In the case of Socialist or communist ideology, a fair share is probably a much different measurement than what a (economic) fascist might consider it to be. When it comes to the politics of fairness, it’s all relative to the desires of the politician and his or her friends. Lastly, the progressive structure of our income taxation makes sure that the rich always pay not only more money, but a higher percentage than the middle class. The poor largely pay next to nothing in Federal income taxes.
The way I see it, there can only be a few reasons for perpetuating this myth in the media and do so with an apparent clear conscience and moral confidence:
- The people who spout this vile lie are actually completely ignorant of the mathematics of percentages. Whether their ignorance is intentional or not requires some further evaluation, but it is quite clear that mathematics is not the strong subject of politicians and their minions. Given the way that Congress mishandles the budget, where a balanced budget is the unicorn of government accounting, the way that so many numbers are thrown out without regard to the nature of those numbers, and the downright stupid statements related to numbers of I have seen. Remember how Obama said that there were 57 states in 2008? Today he said that his health care bill would reduce premiums by 3000% (if you don’t know the illogic in that statement, you’re incredibly stupid).
- The lie is perpetrated because they are intentionally masking their ideology by applying clever marketing strategies. If you read up on the history of the Left, you’d know that Karl Marx brought no new ideas to the table, just a superior marketing campaign. In truth, the Left has been hard at work masking their true objectives by coining key phrases that sound pleasant to the dumb masses like “pro-choice” and “social justice.” Hard statistical data has been purposely distorted to meet their own vile agenda, dating as far back as Alfred Kinsey’s farcical studies on human sexuality.
- They really believe the lie. More than likely, this is the condition of years of absorbing the marketing strategies of those who fall into the earlier reason. The people who succumb to this reason probably have combined the first one as well, although they are more than likely willfully ignorant. C.S. Lewis would refer to these people as Broken.
But then again, any culture that systematically rejects any traditional moral foundation and substitutes it for their own is bound to create their own reality through the power of lying. And as Hitler once said, the bigger the lie, the more the people will believe. Say what you want about that genocidal dictator, he definitely was on to something when it comes to manipulating the masses.
